First full day on MS Finnmarken

It is now the evening of our first full day on the ship. Our room has two twin beds and a surprising amount of storage. There’s a nice window that we can look out from. We are one floor away from the dining room and around the corner from the laundry. Here are three pictures of the room.

We have been traveling around the fjords near Alesund. The crew was doing some man overboard drills. There is definitely snow on the top of the mountains. There’s a fair number of waterfalls coming down. On one of the floors there’s a tank with a bunch of king crab in it that they serve at on of the cafes for an outrageous price. I don’t think we’re going to get any at the restaurant we eat in. However the food is incredible. Here are some pictures of the fjords.

During the afternoon we got a chance to go off the ship and explore the tiny village of Urke. It actually consisted of one little café close to the water and up the hill we were told was a grocery store and motel. People come to this village to hike in the summer and ski in the winter. We really enjoyed having drinks in the café and talking to some of our fellow shipmates that we had not met previously. These folks actually came from a city close to where I grew up. They knew many of the places that I frequented as a young girl. Elaine and I had a great afternoon. In one of the pictures with the grassy field, there is a sign that says no camping in English. I thought that was amusing. One of the pictures is of the tender that we took from the ship to the town.

Unfortunately later that afternoon when the ship was docking in Alesund, someone fell overboard. When a couple of us went off the ship for a short walk we actually saw medics performing CPR on someone. I am concerned that the outcome is not going to be good.
