Toledo

Cathedral of Toledo lit up at night

Walled city of Toledo as seen from across the river
After two nights in Segovia, we spent one night in Toledo. Tamar got a milder version of my stomach bug. When we first got into town, we viewed the walled city from across the river. The only thing we did was walk around the old Jewish Quarter. There are two synagogues still remaining. One is a museum. The other, pictured below, is run by a group promoting understanding between all religions. I was thinking about the book, The Last Jew, some of us read for the book club. I was picturing Jonah living in the quarter, walking down to the river, going to the cathedral. As we were driving through Spain, I also tried to envision him in those places. I came to realize how much we learned from the books we have read.

Inside one of the still standing synagogues. it is not used as a synagogue any more.

  1. Robbie,

Glad you recovered from the bug and hope Tamar is now OK too.

It is good to hear you enjoyed relating *The Last Jew* to your travels. I would love to go to Spain (really almost anywhere) again and see some of the places in the books we have read. This book was particularly powerful for me. And I think it’s better than the other one we read (*By Fire, By Water *I think).

Tonight at ST we are having a conversation on racial justice. I hope it’s interesting. Then Saturday evening we have something called Death Cafe instead of the late night event at the MJCC. They are designed to get us ready for the HHD!

We selected a date for the next book group of November 6. Do you plan to be back by then?

    Please say Hi! to Tamar.

    Anne
