Back in Hebrew school

On the second day of Rosh Hashanah I went to a conservative shul within easy walking distance. There was a cantor who led most of the service little participation by congregants. There was more English so I was able to follow along. Not a very welcoming place. However they do allow visitors for Kol Nidre. Trying to find a place to go because the place that Rabbi goes to wants to charge money and the place I went to on 1st day RH requires a taxi ride. I am thinking of going to the Great Synagogue because it is an easy walk and I think they allow visitors but it is orthodox with separate sections for men and women. Their service is supposed to be beautiful with a chorus.

I have not really gotten out much except to go to classes, study, go to services and do grocery shopping. I haven’t even gotten to the Old City. I am starting to do well in my classes and actually able to have simple conversations. However I am looking forward for them to end so I can start doing other things. Last day is next Friday. The instructors at the school like to talk politics. Nobody understands the Trump phenomenon.

My landlord invited me to join him and his wife at a concert with Indian music tonight. Looking forward to that.

Below is another picture of my Israeli lunches with herring, baba ganoosh, beet salad and olives. My breakfasts and dinners are more American though I am using hummus as a spread for breakfast. I am going to try and cook a chicken in my toaster oven tonight.

  1. Well done with the classes. Your lunches look delicious. Autumn is here and the trees are turning beautiful colours. Of course the sky is mostly a monotone gray and we have had rain all week. I don’t understand the Trump phenomenon either. Enjoy your explorations. Love, Barbara
