On the way to Croatia

I asked Tamar about how things work in Germany. There are three levels of high school. The highest level is for students going on to university. The lowest level stops at 10th grade. That level is becoming problematic because few internships are accepting students with that diploma. I am definitely against a one size fits all approach like we have in the states but the German system also has problems. Medical insurance is provided at a reasonable cost by nonprofit insurance companies. Individuals can also purchase Cadillac plans. The nationalist right wing party finally got enough votes to qualify for seats in the parliament. Interestingly they did significantly better in what used to be East Germany. Europeans are scared of Trump. They are afraid he will start a war. So am I.

I got to my apartment in Zagreb at about 6:30. I talked to Janet and the family. Then went out to a fancy restaurant. I have attached a photo. I had a lamb shank. One of the best ever.

  1. Whoa! Nice restaurant. I agree with you. When I was in High School in New York we had 3 diploma tracts. I only remember 2, the academic, ment for those going on to collage and the technical, auto shop, etc.
Not everyone needs a 4 year degree as it is offered in collage. I saw a report on TV last week about how all of the damage from the hurricanes may never get fixed.. Not enough trades people. I have been saying that for years,,, we need plumber, electricians, carpenters etc. I know someone who tried to start a school like that. He couldn’t get any financial backing so he dropped it. Tried for 6 years!
