Kotor Bay, Montenegro

We have spent two nights in Herceg Novi on Kotor Bay, Montenegro. Kotor Bay is a large very protected bay, oddly shaped, off the Adriatic Sea. Montenegro, whose population is mostly Orthodox, was part of Serbia until 2006. Montenegro is a very mountainous country so felt little impact in the 1991-1995 war. Through its history it has been under the rule of Greeks, Romans, Venicians, Hungarians, etc. Since 2006, it has significantly improved its economy but does rely heavily on tourism. Kotor, at the end of the Bay is a quaint, walled town. It is a popular stop for many cruise ships. In the middle of Kotor Bay are two small islands. One of them was man-made by scuttling old ships and depositing stones. Our Lady of the Rocks is the only structure on the island. It houses many works of art.

First three photos are of our lunch stop on the way to Montenegro.
