Today we visited Save a Child’s Heart, an Israeli based international humanitarian project providing life-saving heart surgeries and follow up care for children from around the world regardless of race or religion. We brought art supplies and we got to play with the children. After lunch we visited the Sharon Recycling Park a unique ecological project transforming a garbage disposal center into one of Israel’s largest parks. Basically they took a one kilometer long by 450 meter wide by 60 meters high mound of garbage, sealed it with a 6 meter deep multilayered covering and made this beautiful park.
Our tour has been about Jewish values in Israel. We have heard about and seen things that have been very upsetting and certainly are not examples of what I think are Jewish values. However, we have seen great examples of Jewish values. Arabs and Jews working together to educate their children and to mediate conflicts in the West Bank. A female led NGO that supports Arab women. An organization that provides life-saving heart surgery and an organization working with garbage and recycling. Just to name a few. Tomorrow will be my last day in Israel.
