I arrived in Bergen on Monday afternoon. Before joining my group, I took a walk around the town. The hotel is right in the old part of Bergen. The church is the oldest building still in use. Bergen is a delightful city. Here are my photos from that walk.

On Tuesday, we got a guided tour of Bergen. We saw some street art, visited a very old church, rode the vunicular up to one of the mountains surrounding Bergen. At the top, I had a picture taken of me and a droll.

The next stop was the old town of Berlin. These houses are built entirely of wood so they’ve had many fires. They keep rebuilding. The area is now a UNESCO heritage site so they have to build in the same style as the houses were built in the 1600s. Because of the fire hazard, the homes have no source of heat or means of cooking. They built a few houses of stone that were used as meeting places and cooking space. The houses are built on fairly loose sand so they have a definite tilt to them and the doors aren’t even straight. With climate change this whole area can be flooded. The houses now have stores and businesses in them.

Later that afternoon we boarded the ship. Here are some pictures taken from the ship at dock and as the ship pulled out of the harbor.

Have a great trip! Hope you catch the Lights.
I wish I could comment on individual pictures…love the one of you with the troll.
