In Tromsø, we were taken to the Arctic Cathedral at midnight for a concert. The performers were a soprano, cellist and organ/piano player. The music was mostly folk songs from Scandinavia and it was delightful.

After being up to almost 2 o’clock because of the concert, we had to be on the bus the next morning at 8 o’clock for a tour of the Lofoten islands. We got off the ship at the town of Harstad and met up again with the ship after 4 1/2 hours in the town of Sortland. The first stop on the tour was an old Romanesque style church with an adjacent museum and a farm from the 13th century. The church had walls that were 2 meters thick. The farmhouse was a wood structure covered with sod for insulation. In the house a woman was sitting spinning yarn. I got to talking to her and she pulled out this little flute and played a song from the 12th century for me. The flute was made out of the thigh bone of a sheep.

We next stopped for a Norwegian style waffle that was more like a crepe. We stopped in a old farmhouse that had been in this family for 10 generations. Upstairs they were selling wool products that were handmade. I couldn’t resist and bought a sweater for my new granddaughter.

After our snack, we continued on the bus which included a ferry ride to meet up with the MS Finnmarken. Most of the next pictures are basically scenic shots.

The flute is amazing! Can’t wait yo see the sweater.

Robbie, an amazing building and music starting at midnight. That must have been a challenge to keep going later in the day. I was impressed by the picture that made the snow look blue – as if it were a painting instead of natural scenery. Peggy
