White Villages of Andalucia

We left Seville and started on our adventure through the mountains of southern Spain and visited the white villages of Andalucia. Before I start describing these villages, I’m going to show you a picture of the dress I bought for my granddaughter, Rachel.

Here is a map showing the location of the five villages which are north of Gibraltar. These village are all located on a hill along the side of a slope. They have some kind of castle keep on the top of the hill to provide protection. They also have a strong Moorish influence. The first town was Arcos de la Frontera. We were taken up to the top Square where we saw some magnificent views and then got to walk down all the cute side streets back to our bus. Here are the pictures of this town and its views.

We bought some cookies at this cloistered convent. The nun can’t really have contact with you so she is behind this rotating thing. You send in the money and she sends out the cookies.

There is this beautiful hotel in the Square. Here are two pictures of the interior and one picture of the view from the terrace of the hotel.

Our next stop was the village of Zahara de la Sierra where we learned about cheese making both the old way and the new. We got to taste some excellent samples of their cheese. Here are two pictures, one is a diorama of how they made the cheese in the past and the other is some recently made blocks of cheese.

We made a stop along the way for lunch. There were some beautiful views at this spot.

Our bus. We had a really nice bus driver. Unfortunately he got a speeding ticket and we all collected money to pay for his ticket. It was incredible to watch his reaction to what we had done.

We next stop at the village of Grazalema for a walking tour. Here are pictures of this village.

Our final stop of the day was Ronda where we spent the night.

Here I found another use for the bidet. Washing out my underwear.
