Krakow

Flew to Krakow on Monday after a not fun experience in the Amsterdam airport involving not finding my friend, being waitlisted, etc. All behind me now and Reggie and I are having a blast. First off our loft Airbnb turned out to be up four flights of stairs, no elevator. It turned out not to be a big deal. I guess I am in better shape than I thought. We went out to dinner in the Old Town and found a very nice restaurant. I had a leg of goose, well prepared. On the way back to the Airbnb, we stopped at the market to get breakfast stuff. On Tuesday we took a tour to a Salt Mine outside of Krakow. The mine has been operational from the 15th century and is still mined today. Over the years the miners made sculptures out of salt and dug out grottoes that were used as churches. In old times they worked 12 hour shifts. We walked down over 800 steps to 130 meters underground. Here are pictures taken in the mine.

Tuesday night we found this incredible restaurant. I had veal chops with chanterelle mushrooms in a cream sauce. After dinner we walked around the old town square. On Wednesday we went to the stain glass museum and learned how they made stain glass windows. It was fascinating. For lunch we found a restaurant that specialized in groats. I had buckwheat with bacon and cooked plums with a side cabbage salad. With a beer it came to about $8. After lunch we walked around the old city looking for the stain glass windows made at the workshop we visited. Then we went to the hotel to meet up with the Roadscholar group. Pictures are from our evening walk, the glass workshop and windows we found.
