Life aboard ship

After seeing Abu Simbel, we got on a ship to cruise Lake Nasser for three days and three nights. At Aswan, because of the dam, we were bused over to yet another ship to cruise three more days on the Nile to Luxor. Instead of showing pictures of the ship on each of the individual days, I’m going to make this one post of life aboard the ships. Each ship held about 100 passengers. We stopped at different sites along the way, and took smaller boats over to the islands. A number of the temples that we visited had to be moved to their current locations because of the water rising behind the dam. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were aboard ship and were Buffet style. The food was good and there was some Egyptian food to be found on the Buffet tables. On two nights we had entertainment.

First night sunset on Lake Nasser
Ruins on an island that we were passing.
Swimming pool on the first boat. I used it twice.
Shot of the moon
Our wonderfully constructed ramp and rail for getting on and off the little boats.
Sunset on the second boat
Captain on the bridge
The US government requires tour groups that have American citizens to have a guard with them. Here is our guard with his Uzi under his right arm, hidden by his jacket.

We had some delightful entertainment on board. Here are some of the pictures. The entertainers were very good about getting the audience up participating.

Whirling dervish. Not the actual ones that rotate to produce a religious trance, but an entertainer. He was quite spectacular.

Every time they cleaned the room and made the bed I got a little surprise. Here are some pictures of the surprises.
