First Full Day in Bacalar

Our Airbnb in Bacalar has a porch and then a beautiful deck upstairs. We have been eating breakfast and lunch on the deck.

Our morning adventure was to go to Los Rapidos which is located on a stream that feeds the Bacalar lagoon. The current is moving but not very swiftly so you can jump in the water and float down for a while, get back out and walk back to the start point and do it all over again. We did it four times. The water was so refreshing and beautiful. Very clear. I took the underwater camera with me, so I was able to take pictures while I was floating. In the water are stromatolites which look like boulders but are biochemical sedimentary rocks. They are a layered deposit, mainly of limestone formed by the growth of blue-green algae. Here are some pictures taken on the way to the site.

Here are the pictures of the site that I took with the iPhone.

As part of the Airbnb, we get admission to a club that is down the street where we can have access to the water and get kayaks. So after lunch, we went down there to spend a little time. Here is some of the pictures from that activity.

We went to dinner at a restaurant that was right on the water. It had nice ambience, but the food could’ve been a little better seasoned.
