On the way to Central Asia to Travel the Silk Road

I am off on a four week adventure. My first stop is Boston to visit two of my freshman year college roommates. I will then fly to Almaty, Kazakhstan with an overnight stop in Frankfurt. I will be a solo participant in a Roadscholar tour traveling the Silk Road in Central Asia. We will be going to 5 different Stan countries. On my way home, I will spend five days in Frankfurt.

In Boston, I spent two days on the Cape. We went to Provincetown. I used to go there when I was a small child. Haven’t been back there since the early 1950s. To be honest, I don’t remember what it looked like. However, it was fun to go there this time. We took an hour sightseeing tour on a trolley, then walked around and eventually visited the Cape Cod National Seashore. So some of the things I learned was that people in Provincetown say that the pilgrims landed there first. After spending six weeks and determining that the area was not habitable, they moved onto Plymouth. Across from Provincetown is a fairly long sandbar. In the 1700s and 1800s, people built homes on the sandbar. It became untenable to maintain those homes, and they literally put them on barges and floated them to the mainland during the 19th century. The homes that were removed are marked today with a certain plaque. The winds and tides are constantly remaking Cape Cod’s shore line. There are sandbars that within a couple days look entirely different.

The plaque in the upper right corner indicates that this was one of the houses that was moved off the sandbar.

I just love Cape Cod architecture. Here are some of the interesting houses that I saw.

The water is so clear. I couldn’t resist so I rolled up my pants and went wading.

I am absolutely amazed by the different shades of green.
I am in the middle. The other ladies are two of my freshman year college roommates. Paula is on my right and Eileen is on my left. There were six of us in the beginning and we have maintained a relationship all these years. I love stopping in Boston on my travels to visit with these wonderful ladies.

  2. Well, this is my first reading of your travelogue. Always interesting. I won’t be reading much for a bit but when I get back to your accounts I’ll have a book to read 😊
