Gijon, Spain

On Monday, I left Franklin and flew to Bilbao Spain, where I met up with my friend Reggie. From there, we rented a car and drove three hours to Gijon which is a delightful city on the north coast of Spain. When we got here, we had an interesting adventure. It took over an hour due to a comedy of errors to be able to get into our apartment and get the car parked in the garage. What would life be without adventures? Our Airbnb is a two bedroom apartment looking out on the Atlantic ocean. The apartment is located right in the heart of the town. On Tuesday morning, we walked a short distance to a market. On the way we were able to buy a charge cord for Reggie’s IPhone, go to the ATM and buy some other essentials. Everything is within walking distance of this Airbnb. We also went to the Mercado del Sol to buy some food for breakfast and lunches. The market did not have a lot of stalls, but just enough for us to buy a delightful selection of ham, cheeses, olives, fruit and bread. We also ate breakfast in the market. Outside the market, we found a store where we were able to buy a jar of clams and some sardines . Looking forward to eating all of this stuff. Here are pictures of the view from the Airbnb.

Our breakfast in the market: cafe con leche, danish and sardines with olives.

Here are two pictures of the area around the market.

Our big adventure for Tuesday was to drive to Fuente De to ride a tram up to the top of a mountain. What was supposed to be a 2 1/2 hour drive turned into an over 3 hour drive because of a lot of construction. It was so beautiful as we drove through the mountains, meadows and canyons. The towns were very quaint. We made it up there just in time to catch one of the last tram rides. Here are the pictures I took on the drive up.

Here are some pictures taken from inside the tram. Unfortunately, they’re not the best because I was taking them through a window.

We had a delightful ride back to Gijon, stopping at a few places to take pictures and of course to have gelato.

We got home so late and so tired that the gelato turned out to be our dinner. All in all an absolutely incredible day.
