First full day on Tobacco Caye

Last night, it was so delightful to listen to the waves lapping on the shore. So far the food here has been just fine. We’ve met some nice people, particularly a family from Montana that have a four-year-old and a seven-year-old.

After breakfast, I went for a walk around the island to look for a nice sunny warm spot. I took some pictures on this walk. There are pelicans all over these islands.

Later in the morning, we went out on the boat to see some other cayes and maybe do some snorkeling. We were with the family from Montana. This time we actually got to see manatees. Unfortunately, we didn’t go snorkeling with them. They also came up to the surface so quickly, you really had to be fast to see them. Because of that, I was unable to get any pictures. It was exciting. You’ll just have to believe me. We did get to go to a small island that has hundreds of frigate birds. The juveniles have a white beak, the females have a white breast and the males have a red breast. The male builds the nest and then puffs up his red breast like a balloon to attract the female. Both the male and female take turns feeding the young. When I got home and looked at the pictures, I actually saw that I had a picture of two blue footed boobies.

Berni took this picture. It shows male frigates and blue footed boobies.

We did go snorkeling when we got back close to our island. It was nowhere near as impressive as the snorkeling we did on our tour at Caye Caulker. When I got back to our cabin, I discovered that I forgot to put the memory card into my camera so I do not have any pictures. I also jumped into the water with my iPhone in my pocket. So right now I can’t charge my iPhone because the connector is wet. Anyhow, it is evening and we had a delightful dinner with some people from Britain. It is almost bedtime.
