Our day by the Pacific Ocean

Our day started spectacularly with sunshine. Quite a change from the torrential downpour that we had yesterday. Not only did the day start with sunshine, but most of the day we had sunshine. So we were able to do the river boat cruise that we missed. In addition, we also went on outrigger canoes and had a picnic on the beach. Before I show the pictures from these adventures, I have a few others to show.

Chef making four different omelettes at once
There are a number of these on the walkway so we really had to watch out for them.
Our other home away from home. We had the same bus and driver for the whole trip.
Another example of a Costa Rican home.
Papayas. There are both male and female trees.
Dragon fruit

Our first adventure for the day was a river boat cruise to see crocodiles on the Targoles River.

Our other leader, Roger, showing us why eucalyptus fruit is used to produce makeup.

The next set of pictures are of the crocodiles. The boat drivers actually gave some of them names since they pretty much stay in the same area. Climate change is proving to be a real threat to crocodiles. The sex of a crocodile is determined by temperature with more females being produced in warmer temperatures. There are now more females than males which threatens the gene pool and the very survival of the species.

A baby about two years old. The mother has to protect the babies since the males will kill them as perceived rivals. Crocodiles lay eggs similar to turtles.

Now for the birds

In for a landing

Our next adventure was to paddle outrigger canoes to a private beach for play time and a picnic lunch. I so enjoyed this activity since it reminds me of part of my lifestyle at home. Only I don’t paddle at home. I take the motor boat. This experience was the perfect way to end this trip playing together in the water and partaking of good food.

Clouds and the sea. What a perfect combo.
Lunch was make your own sandwich, chips and really good bean dip.

Can’t get too much sky and water.

I am now in the Costa Rica airport waiting for my flight home so this is the end of this journey. Next up is Egypt and Israel in October/November.
