Mexico is not really my first choice for traveling, but I took advantage of having friends that lived down here during the winter months, and I wanted to get the heck out of Portland weather. I met Berni in Mexico City. We spent a few days before flying down to the Yucatán Peninsula. There we rented a car and traveled around for 12 days before heading back to Mazatlan where Dan and Berni live. i’ve had a complete reversal of opinion about Mexico. It has been a delightful place to travel in. The Mexican people are joyful, friendly, and helpful. They are also very hard-working but also love to celebrate. I was not a big fan of Mexican food but down here the food is entirely different from at home, I rarely saw on the menu a burrito or enchilada. Tacos are abundant and very delicious. Because we were mostly on the coast, we had a lot of seafood choices. They cook shrimp and fish many different ways. I was able to have octopus three different times. Mexican food is still not my favorite but it was a lot better than I expected. I drove the car in the Yucatán peninsula, and had absolutely no trouble. The roads are well labeled. I felt very comfortable driving. We stayed primarily in Airbnbs. Each one of them was comfortable and in a good location. We average a little over $100 a night for two people in resort areas. Mexico turned out not to be as cheap as I expected but it was not unreasonable. I would definitely recommend coming to Mexico especially during the winter.

Welcome home! Sounds like you had a great time, and I enjoyed living vicariously through you in each place you visited. Look forward to catching up with you soon.
