Our third day in Gijon

This morning, I got the idea of trying to locate a body shop and seeing what it would take to fix the car. We got an early start out of the house and went to a body shop that was within about a kilometer. The guys there were really nice and immediately fixed the car. It took them less than 15 minutes. I asked how much and he said just give him what I thought it was worth so I handed him €50. What a relief. You cannot tell that there was any damage done to the car. The experience was also another wonderful contact with local residents. What a happy ending to that adventure.

After lunch, we decided to explore another coastal town so we drove about 30 minutes west to the town of Aviles. Aviles is one of the main towns in the principality of Asturias. Aviles is more of an industrial town than Gijon. Upon arriving, we stumbled on a beautiful old part of town with a very nice looking church. The architecture of the buildings was stunning. There was also a gelato store. What more can you ask for?

After finishing our gelato, we drove over to the harbor area. Even though it was quite industrial, it was still beautiful. There were a number of guys lined up along the quay fishing. Unfortunately, I didn’t think to take a picture of them. Here are the pictures that I did take.

After returning to Gijon, we decided to go back to the restaurant we ate at last night. They had a lot of seafood entrées, and we just like the atmosphere of the place. This night we had seafood paella and the same nice white wine. They also have the most delicious bread.
