On Saturday, we drove to Victoria making a stop at the Kinsol Trestle. We were all sad to leave our house on Lake Cowichan. The Kinsol Trestle is one of the tallest free-standing and most spectacular timber rail trestle structures in the world at 187 metres in length and standing 44 metres above the salmon bearing Koksilah River.

On Sunday, we headed into downtown Victoria, especially to visit Chinatown. We ate in one quite unique Chinese restaurant called Little Yunan. It’s served a beautiful rice noodle soup with your choice of ingredients. Afterwards, I took a walk down to the little harbor in front of the Empress Hotel. This is the government docks that I stayed on all the times that I sailed into Victoria.

For dinner we went to one of the top rated restaurants in Victoria, Marilena Cafe and Raw Bar, one of the finest restaurants that I have ever eaten in. I had salmon sashimi for an appetizer, roasted cauliflower, roasted mushrooms and octopus for my main and a vanilla cheesecake with mango sherbet for dessert. Can’t rave enough about how outstanding this restaurant was.

Monday we return to Portland.
