We sadly left Valladolid but excited about finally getting to the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula.

We are going to spend the rest of the time on the East Coast of the Yucatán Peninsula on the Caribbean. We arrived at the coast at the town of Tulum. It turned out to be a very touristy, crowded place that we were glad we were not going to stay at. We did, however get our grocery shopping done before heading to Akumal. We are staying a little north of the town in a locked community, which has its own access to the Yalkú lagoon and cenote. Upon our arriving at our lovely two bedroom unit, we got on our swimsuits and collected our snorkeling gear and headed down to the lagoon. I already owned a mask and snorkel, but I purchased some fins before I left for Mexico. The fins are shorter than normal, and are specially made for fitting in a suitcase. I certainly am glad I did that.

Since I had my underwater camera, I was able to take lots of pictures of fish. The snorkeling here was quite good. I really enjoy trying to take pictures of the fish. It’s not that easy, so here goes lots of pictures of fish.

We went back into Akumal for dinner. We just chose a restaurant off Google maps which turned out to be in the middle of the touristy part of the town. The place was right on the water and actually had sand for a floor. It was fun to eat there, but the food was just OK, basically good bar food.

Those fish pictures are incredible, Robbie. I especially liked the next to the last one, since it was smiling! ND
